In 1983, on the initiative of the departed Antonios I. Kosmadakis, the small and Historical Museum of Sougia was founded, which was housed and visited in 1999. It is the property of the Cultural Association of all those who come from Sougia and concerns the struggles and sacrifices of residents of the province of Selino for freedom and independence. The purpose of the museum was and is to collect and save the evidence that determine the history of the province of Selino.
The museum is housed on the 1st floor of a two-storey building, fully harmonized with the environment, in the center of the village. There preserved elements through which the visitor can get a complete picture of the history and the events that took place in the region.
A very well-kept and organized place where through black and white photographs and paintings depicting the battles between the resistance and the Germans, no visitor remains unmoved as the memory of all those who supported this place with their blood is revived. While observing the weapons and materials used in sabotage or clashes, binoculars, wireless helmets and many other remnants, one realizes the brutality of a hated war and the unique history of this place while emphasizing the need for peaceful coexistence of peoples.
So it is worth, in memory of all those who sacrificed, to dedicate some of your time and visit this wonderful place. For more information you can contact us directly by calling us on the phone or sending a message to the contact form.
